Often people ask me who I read and why. My usual response is: I read almost anything that hooks me from the beginning and keeps me entertained. I have to feel like I am involved in the plot. I have to genuinely care about the characters and their obstacles. I need to see the characters as real people, deserving of either my cheers or my jeers. Forgiving Maximo Rothman is one of these books that hooked and held my attention.

When this book was launched in New York City, I attended and listened to author A.J. Sidransky speak for over an hour about writing historical fiction. I was impressed with his intellect. He struck me as a writer with an unmatched wit. Reading his book confirmed my impressions. Forgiving Maximo Rothman was a thrilling read and was impossible to put down. Its style and voice is unique and refreshing.

It’s a story entangled in history, religion, oppression, but ultimately, the story is about fatherhood. And with Father’s Day quickly approaching, it’s a great time to read this awesome book.

I hear Sidransky’s latest, Stealing A Summer’s Afternoon, is newly released… It’s already on my reading list. Add it to yours!
